When Grace Kim relocated from Sydney to the Blue Mountains just outside the city, she was equal parts elated and frustrated. While thrilled with the awe-inspiring location of her new home, she was not thrilled with having to travel all the way to Sydney to see high-quality classical music. 

Knowing other locals shared her views, Grace decided to flip the script (or score) and attract musicians and audiences from afar to the Blue Mountains with a locally based concert series: Mountain Concerts.

Launched in 2014 with Grace as creative director, Mountain Concerts brings intimate chamber music performances to some of the most spectacular venues in the Blue Mountains.

“Not only do these concerts allow local audiences to see performers of the highest quality, but the uniqueness of the setting in a World Heritage Area attracts Sydney audiences too,” says Grace.

Grace has used her renown to attract international soloists and principal musicians to perform at stunning local venues, including the Blue Mountains Opera Festival at the Hydro Majestic Hotel. Similar to the magnificent concert halls of Europe, where Grace has played before royalty and other dignitaries to critical acclaim, this iconic location and performance drew awe from an audience of locals and interstate visitors. 

“Live music performances remind people of the art of music, and music as a form of communication and a way of exploring feelings and emotions,” says Grace. “Mountain Concerts provide an unforgettable shared experience with the musicians, other audience members and even the venue itself.’’
